Tips Tricks & General Knowledge About Digital Signage
To Zone or not to Zone, that is the question...
So we know we can define multiple screen layouts consisting of various sized areas on the screen and play content in them, but is that the best use of our system? Should we use zones just because we can and it looks cool?
Too often screens are split into many small zones and are just way too busy for the viewing area they serve. If a user has to stand close and study the screen because you’re running seven zones on a thirty-two inch display, you have probably overshot your intended purpose.
One test for zoning is if some of the information you are displaying needs to be persistent or anchored. Something like “Today’s Specials” would be a good reason to have an area that stayed while other content changed around it. If you do have the need to zone, then consider using multiple layouts that change from one to another with fewer zones instead of cramming it all into a single screen thus defeating the communication mission in the first place!
TIP: Practice Safe Zoning!
Use the power of the content management tools to create a comfortable layout(s).
