Advertisers should be lined up for the opportunity to put their brand on a signage screen. On signage screens, there are opportunities to grab the attention of current customers, potential customers, and a whole new market of individuals that traditional advertising methods do not target. Not only that, it is a much more cost-effective way of broadcasting your message to the community. Some of the key benefits include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Build brand awareness</li>
<li>Capture the attention of the audience</li>
<li>Promote specials</li>
<li>Build custom ads (still ads or animated ads)</li>
<li>New product launches</li>
<li>Target new customers</li>
<li>Promote community events</li>
<li>Lower cost of productions of marketing materials</li>
</ul>
<p>The signage systems can be used wherever people are waiting for a service or good. This may include a store entrance, a check-out line, pharmacy’s, gas pumps, etc. You can use signage systems for certain areas of a store, and create custom content specific for each area. Signage can also be used to promote daily specials and potentially increase the number of impulse buys due to the advertising techniques.</p>
<p>It goes without saying that there are many advantages to advertising with digital signage. The subscription costs significantly less than newspaper or television ads, targeted by current customers that are already buyers, and increase impulse buys. There are also indirect paybacks included as well that may not be as obvious as the others. Some of these indirect paybacks include shortening the perception of wait time at checkout/service areas, build awareness of community involvement, and demonstrates savings by making specials and discounts more obvious to the public.</p>
<p>The best thing about it all is that digital signage is not limited to just a few markets. Digital signage is versatile, so every business and organization can implement signage in one way or another. Customers like to feel valued, and signage screens demonstrate company efforts in keeping loyal customers loyal, and new customers intrigued. Digital signage can change the customer’s experience in many ways, but also the business experience as well.</p>

<p>Everyone knows that a picture is worth a thousand words, and as a result every moment more images compete to capture the attention of consumers and communicate with them. Advertising bombards morning commuters, whether highway billboards, changing train car signage, or the countless advertisements that line the subway. Retailers and restaurants understand the importance of Point of Purchase advertising, and more and more industries are coming to understand it as well. Any message faces the battle of trying to stay relevant and visible in this flood of images, and it is important to allow the technology to serve the message rather than getting lost in the potential of delivery without communicating in a meaningful way.</p>
<h3>Finding The Right Technology for the Job</h3>
<p>From consumer camcorders and cameras to the movie theaters advances in technology have become an important way to hold on to an audience. Resolution and image size, refresh rates, and even 3D technology have all become selling points in home and professional electronics as well as entertainment. A sharper image, with more vibrancy and motion, true colors and even visually discernibly textures, all of these help messages stand out. Grabbing hold of an audience with this technology can help your brand or message stay in their minds, both consciously and unconsciously.</p>

<p>Often a popular commercial stands out in people’s memories, but too often the commercial is remembered and not its message. Clever punch lines or payoffs, controversial content or innovative approaches, these are just a few of the tools that can help hook an audience. But hooking an audience without delivering a message is no better than disappearing amid the wall of sound.</p>
<p>While commercials have time to connect with an audience with humor, character, or story, a sign stands alone. First glance may be all your sign has to forge a connection to your audience. Celebrities, bold statements, or something as simple as bright colors can help, but with the number of images competing for focus it’s important to stay at the head of the pack with connective technology.</p>
<h3>The Future of 3D Technology?</h3>
<p>In many ways, advertising comes down to two things; an eye-grabbing message or image and a solid branding message that stays with the audience and impacts their purchase in the future. Practical 3D is becoming increasingly popular, that is to say actual three-dimensional approaches to signage rather than 3D perspective illusion. Whether engaging an audience by way of a character, or making a true Hero Shot of a product by creating it larger than life while in all its three-dimensional glory, advertisers have realized that simply perspective 3D needs to evolve.</p>
<p><img class="blog-screen size-medium wp-image-1486" title="rotating-billboard" src="http://www.connectedsign.com/digi-know-digital-sign-blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/rotating-billboard-300x130.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="130" />3D views on a two-dimensional field are no longer as exciting to an audience. 3D has given way to truly three-dimensional signage, while billboards have shifted to rotated campaigns on one board. Rotating images have long been common in center courts and street advertisements, and are becoming increasingly common on trains, highway billboards and similar signage opportunity points. These two trends are diametrically opposed, but are focused on the same issue: consumer attention spans.</p>
<p><img class="blog-screen-left  wp-image-1487" title="3dbillboard01" src="http://www.connectedsign.com/digi-know-digital-sign-blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/3dbillboard01-300x199.jpg" alt="" width="240" height="159" />While rotating signage opportunities increase revenues by compounding advertiser real estate, the motion of changing advertisements also helps grab eyes. Truly three-dimensional signs work even harder to grab attention, but this approach may ultimately be less of a return on investment, as they are costlier not only in design but in execution. A new approach is necessary. As 3D has allowed an image to “jump out” at an audience  the next wave of technology may be able to “pull in” an audience.</p>
<p>The natural extension of the current 3D technology would be to create signage that creates the illusion of greater depth than two dimensions could ever offer before. 3D fulfills the eye-grabbing necessity, but the next level of connective imagery could draw the audience in, allowing for a message to take deeper root. Additionally, it would exist within the two dimensions, allowing both advertisers and advertisement real estate owners to benefit from the advantages of rotating messages.</p>
<h3>An Extended View</h3>
<p><img class="blog-screen  wp-image-1488" title="distracting" src="http://www.connectedsign.com/digi-know-digital-sign-blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/distracting-300x215.jpg" alt="" width="180" height="129" />Of course, more effective signage can become dangerous. Many would argue that signs that really draw an audience in have no place on a highway. A second consideration for effective signage will be subconscious connection that barely registers on the conscious level. Consumers are moving through their days at such high speeds that a message that takes too long to deliver will be rushed past.</p>
<p>Transparent LCD allows a message to be delivered without demanding a moment’s hesitation on the part of the viewer. More and more content is being consumed, through streaming services, digital readers, and embedded video. Second screen experiences are becoming a more and more common special feature as studios and distributors attempt to add value to DVD and Blu-ray purchases, as pirated films eat into their profit potential.</p>
<p>Music and video streaming services, as well as digital readers, have built in revenue structures through advertisements, but those advertisements disrupt the consumption of content. Readers, viewers, and listeners all desperately want to avoid the disruption of these advertisements, causing the advertisers to be received in a negative light. But imagine you could absorb your content while advertisers subtly built in their messages – like an unobtrusive banner ad – right over or under your content experience. A simple image, the recognizable shape of a logo or popular product, could live on a dual layered transparent LCD to constantly be just on the edge of consumer consciousness.</p>
<p><img class="blog-screen-left  wp-image-1490" title="SONY DSC" src="http://www.connectedsign.com/digi-know-digital-sign-blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/LCD-door-300x230.jpg" alt="" width="210" height="161" />Transparent LCD opportunities exist in many less obvious places. Point of purchase materials in restaurants and retailers, table tents and countless signs of countless shapes and sizes are all surfaces. As advertising real estate becomes increasingly valuable, not only will it become advantageous to rotate content to compound the messages through one surface but also to identify new advertising real estate.  At present, the glass doors on coolers in convenience markets and super markets (or liquor stores may hold limited sticker advertising, but a clear LCD door would allow for animation and active images to give a constantly changing and engaging series of advertising exposures.</p>
<p>While entertaining, these exposures would eventually become peripheral. This would have advantages in terms of continual subconscious reinforcement, but it would also be necessary to combat these exposures disappearing in the background by continuously creating new content to engage shoppers. A multi-tier approach would have messages that could engage and entertain for a few moments, while being a part of a simple superimposed image that reinforces a brand, product, or message without interrupting a consumer’s stride.</p>
<h3>The Long Road to Engagement</h3>
<p><img class="blog-screen  wp-image-1491" title="multiple-messages" src="http://www.connectedsign.com/digi-know-digital-sign-blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/multiple-messages-300x199.jpg" alt="" width="240" height="159" />Similarly, a highway series of billboards takes a certain amount of an audience’s attention without demanding too much, holding their focus for longer by reaching across multiple boards, each containing a smaller piece of the puzzle and thereby creating less of the distraction that could prove dangerous. Of course, the argument could be made for transparent LCD opportunities in windshields, rear view mirrors, and GPS displays. While there would certainly be push back as to the potential risks of a distraction like this for drivers, do not be surprised if you see the debate. The groundwork is already beginning, with transparent LCD accessories being offered for vehicles. If a clock can be sold to be displayed in the driver’s direct line of vision, when a car already has a clock display, imagine the advertising potential. The company that can effectively turn your vehicle into a constant subtle advertising stream will be well positioned to control the advertising future.</p>
<p>Americans require more and more stimulation, with television viewers operating smart phones, tablets, or computers simultaneously, at the very least texting. Reality shows have tuned in to the value of direct response. Similarly, the future of digital signage may have greater interactivity. As smart phones are replaced by devices that are almost physical extensions of the user, the opportunity for interactivity will only increase. While some complain that people “need” this additional stimulation too much, it is also indicative of increased brain activity and engagement.</p>

They are even capable of interacting with multiple stimuli at once. Shaping their interactions towards advertising opportunities will help reveal the future of digital signage applications.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Chicago Cubs have been around since 1914. Wrigley Field has virtually been unchanged in the last century, but owners are beginning to realize that there has to be a change. Although they had the 10<sup>th</sup> highest paid attendance in 2012 (out of 32 teams), they realize that they are missing out on higher attendance and increased revenue every season. Being at the historic Wrigley Field is an amazing ballpark experience in itself, but being the last Major League stadium without a jumbotron (or very large signage system) makes the owners question if they are approaching the financial side of things correctly. Every season, MLB teams bring in millions of dollars in revenue from their jumbotrons. These digital signage systems attract sponsors, give fans up to date statistics, show videos in between innings, replays, and also allow the fans to interact with events and the infamous “kiss-cam”. The Chicago Cubs have calculated that they could bring in close to $5 million in extra revenue every season if they install a jumbotron. The renovation process is currently in the beginning stages, but by the 2014 season, Cubs fans can expect a new look at Wrigley Field. This renovation project proves to show that digital signage is beneficial for not only the financial side of the business, but also shows the fans and customers that it is about them and the experiences they have as well.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Resolution in the world of graphics can be a slippery slope of jargon and misunderstanding. Your print designers talk DPI while your web designers talk about screen ratios. Well, they are both right, but there is more than just one or the other to consider.</p>
<p>To make things a little easier, lets clarify the 3 different types of “Resolution” you might deal with:</p>
<p><strong>Graphic Resolution:</strong> The size graphics are designed or created using professional design software.<br />
<strong>Desktop Resolution:</strong> The size of the desktop on the PC that is running your digital signage.<br />
<strong>Display / Hardware Resolution:</strong> Set in the menu on the monitor / display itself, which should match your desktop resolution exactly.</p>
<p>Currently, there is no need for 300+ DPI (Dots Per Inch) documents to be used on your displays. Save your megabites to run more content. The software you are running will determine the resolution at which graphics should be created (commonly 72 or 96 DPI). The software and version will determine the DPI resolution at which graphics should be created. Following the manufacturer’s recommendation will give you the best results for your particular deployment.</p>
<p>Your desktop resolution will control how the sign displays in the final version of your deployment. If you are dealing with a digital sign that has been created at a certain size, you should match that to the desktop resolution; i.e: 1920&#215;1080 digital sign should be displayed on a PC running a 1920&#215;1080 desktop resolution. If all of your ducks are in a row, you’ll get a perfectly fit display.</p>

Not only does it do the job of traditional advertising methods, but it leaves its mark on consumer’s minds with its unique display of content and images. Digital signage is being adopted by many colleges and universities around the country. Most recently, North Carolina State had the idea of having a digital library where the signage system can be used to research topics, search for books, and to also be used by students to play games along with design experimentation. These are just a few things that digital signage systems are capable of. This signage system has been a success at the NC State library, and has allowed the university to reach its goal of creating an iconic facility for students and faculty to engage through course work and research. This sort of technology will continue to bring positive attention to the university and to all schools around the country.</p>

<p>Hello all,</p>
<p>Last week was my first week working with ConnectedSign and I loved it. There were many assignments and responsibilities delegated my way, and I had fun doing them all. Learning the signage system has been a great experience for me, and it will continue to be as I get more familiar with the finer details within the system. I have worked on my personal signage project for almost a week and it has come a long way since day one. On the signage I have included many features. On the top left it has a region displaying the current date and time. To the right of the date and time I have a live feed of 3-day weather forecasts. Below is just an image, and below that I have two videos playing in a loop. The very bottom region is a feed showing the Yankees baseball schedule for the 2013 season. I am a huge sports fan, so this project was a lot of fun for me. I look forward to refining these skills and applying them for projects that are not just for me, but for companies looking to gain an edge in the market.</p>

As technology continues to improve, and consumers become more accustomed with their technological devices such as iPhones and such, companies around the world must find ways to keep up with the demands of the market. Our generation and the generations to come are very dependent on technology. We can listen to music, play a game, text, and order food all at the same time from a single device. Especially the younger generations, which are born into a world full of the newest technology, and have no idea what flip-phones or phone books are. So what are large markets doing to adjust to their customer needs? Many of the larger markets in the world, even those in the sports industry such as the Orlando Magic, have been adopting digital signage in their buildings, offices, restaurants, stadiums and arenas. Some benefits are increased workplace efficiencies by reducing time-consuming micro-tasking of personnel who can now be reassigned to less redundant activities. The added benefits to the workplace doesn’t just save time and labor, it also increases the effectiveness of communicating, making digital signage a win-win proposition for both managers and consumers. Simply put, digital signage today makes good business sense on any level and in any market.</p>

Being that I am new to ConnectedSign, there are certain things I must know like how to use the digital signage software. It has many cool features which can be utilized to make awesome signage design and presentations. It can hold videos of any length, display live feeds, live audio, documentation, charts, graphs, and it also has touch screen capabilities&#8230;.pretty cool right? It was very easy to pick up thanks to the detailed instructions on the YouTube tutorial videos. These videos came in handy since I am new to the software and some of its applications that I have never used before. Even without asking many questions to the more experienced software users I am able to navigate through the software smoothly and pick up things as I go. I&#8217;m on my second day working on my own personal project, and I have taken large steps in the right direction. I am certain that by next week, I will understand the system better and have my own personal signage complete.</p>

<p>The digital signage industry is a worldwide marketplace, which means for you to get the goods, there is likely to be some shipping involved. Logistics companies deal with millions of packages daily. That means, in their eyes, your slick new LED touch screen might not look very different than a box of rocks would. </p>
<p>Thankfully, there are precautions you can take to make sure your screens are taken care of in the event of the occasional (but inevitable) mishap. Is it glass, what happens if it gets wet? Should I insure it, or just roll the dice? I am no insurance salesman, but here are my three key points before I decide whether or not to insure an item.</p>
<p>•	What happens if it’s left outside in the rain- will it fry, or won’t it?<br />
•	What happens if Johnny Haste decides to see how far the package can fly through the shipping warehouse to save a few steps- will it break?<br />
•	What would happen if I stacked five feet of other heavy freight on this box- would it and its contents be crushed?</p>
<p>There are many more variables to consider, but the bottom line is, high dollar items are worth the extra couple of bucks to insure. Otherwise, you might end up with a really neat, but really permanent effect like this. No Photoshop brush required.</p>

Having started my career in advertising, I understand the processes needed for a successful Digital Signage deployment and one of the key elements is the message you’re broadcasting to the end-user.</p>
<p>Studies have shown that consumers have become very sophisticated over the years and can quickly determine whether a message is relative or not. In the real world you have about three seconds to make enough of an impression that the user will examine your message more deeply.</p>
<p>If they determine that there is no valuable content or the content is stale and undirected, they will just plain ignore it.</p>
<p>Now the real big preoblem is not that the content is initialy ignored, but that over a period of time, users will be trained to ignore all the content on a display if it does not meet the basic requirements.</p>
