Ben & Jerry’s opened its newly remodeled flagship store in Burlington Vermont.
The video shows the main new addition to the store décor, a seven foot tall, ten inch deep replica of the original Volkswagen micro bus that the founding partners used in the early days of the company.
Connectedsign worked with the video production company Dreamlike Pictures to produce the high value content. Connectedsign was also responsible for the specification and design of the content playback system that was ultimately integrated into the Bus structure.
Behind the windshield of the VW Bus lie two forty inch Samsung Commercial high definition LCD screens. The content digital signage media player can run content across both screens or play independent content on each screen. It even has original side-view mirrors!
I would describe this as the corporate flagship test store for Ben & Jerry's to start a worldwide effort to update and rebrand the franchise - the first time since 1984.
In national surveys the company conducted in 2008, they determined that many of their core values and mission were not known to consumers. For example 80% of people between the age of 18 and 34 did not know that Ben and Jerry were in fact real people.
The vw bus was a facimile of the actual bus they drove as they picked up supplies for their first scoop shop they opened in 1978 in Vermont.
Dreamlike Pictures ( www.dreamlikepictures.com ) won the bid over larger companies due to its unique mix of technical, branding and film making skills to create a series of "no hard sell" fun, and powerful imagry that were meant to support the companies on going and more importantly historical social, environmental and product mission of the company.
The test was unveiled at the Companies annual meet in mid January to the franchise system worldwide and will begin implementation of the bus and Displays through 2009.
